    I feel ya, YinOrYan

I don't think it's dangerous because it's doubtful they will ever even get a real edged weapon. I do think it's negligent because it doesn't teach an authentic practice.

Do you have any idea how many sword sellers are doing Livestreams on TikTok??? I'm glad you don't, because you would spend less time on this forum and too much time just watching and chatting with the likes of https://www.tiktok.com/@rva.katana who sell quite a bit of sharp jians.

Also, it goes without saying (so I will say it for you) that those LED Saber Forms are even more absurdly like Wushu given that all sides of them are potentially sharp, so if the forms were ever intended to be practical they would be look like extremely traditional jian forms where functionality is the primary factor!

    alas YinOrYan

I am painfully aware of the uptick in sharp Chinese sword availability. Remember I made and sold swords for a living. I was even on a TV show for it.

However, at this time, those who work sharps and those who do wushu are quite distinct. The same is true for the bulk of Kung Fu people too. Perhaps that'll change when some of these kids get older. It's something that I've endeavored to remedy with some of my writing. Anyone who works sharps can tell if you don't practice with sharps. I'm always astounded how many Kung Fu 'masters' have never done any cutting. A lot of those self proclaimed 'traditional' sword 'masters' really don't know. It's very easy to tell just by looking at at their sword stroke within a form. It's ironic because traditional Kung Fu Jian forms are quite sophisticated.

Personally, I think 'real' lightsaber would look completely different than Jian. We are currently locked within present sword traditions - Kung Fu, Kendo, Escrima & Fencing. Those all consider the edge, and like you say, there's no edge to lightsaber. Nor does the cut matter. It should look completely different. The closest might be electric saber because they've abandoned the notion of edge in how they score now. It's something I've been pondering because I suspect there's a gap that could be exploited here. But if you don't mind, let's take up this discussion on The-May-the-Fourth-LED-Saber-Championship if you want to pursue it.
